About Me
I graduated from the Concurrent Education program at Laurier/Nipissing Brantford in 2007. As part of my program, I had the unique opportunity to teach English in L'Aquila, Italy for three weeks as part of an international practicum. The following year, I went back to school to complete my Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. In the fall of 2009, after a year of volunteering and tutoring, I was successful in securing a position on Waterloo Region DSB's occasional teacher list. Since then, I have taught Grade One and Kindergarten in both LTO and permanent teaching positions. My heart is in Kindergarten; I am a firm believer in purposeful play-based learning and working in partnership with Early Childhood Educators to plan and implement an effective and engaging program.
I have pursued additional qualifications in Special Education (Part 1), Reading (Part 1), and Kindergarten (Specialist). In addition, I frequently attend workshops, participate in webinars, or seek out other professional development opportunities available to me in order to remain current and improve on my practice.
Outside of teaching, I run my own tutoring business and work seasonally with Operation Christmas Child. I've held various volunteer positions as well that had me working with infants to the elderly and various age groups in between for a variety of purposes. My volunteer activities have even taken me to Senegal, Africa!
I am an enthusiastic and positive person who as a camp counselor earned the nickname "Happy." I enjoy collaborating professionally and working as part of a team. I work hard and take pride in everything I do, doing it to the best of my ability and always striving to learn and grow. I enjoy spending my free time gardening, painting, reading, cycling, and volunteering in my community.
